Historical Writing is a genre in Literature that reconstructs the past. The historical writing take its setting, characters and events from history. Historical events and issues become crucial for the central characters and narrative. Concreteness, impersonality, objectivity are the best qualities of historical writings.

                  Historical Writing began in the nineteenth century with Sir Walter Scott. It is a Combination of policies, psychology and prejudice. History must go deep into the facts like science. The Historians are mostly concerned with 'Why it happened?' and 'the way is happened'. The presentation should be formal and concise in historical writing. 
   

                 In literature, Historical writings purpose can be both to entertain and to help readers reevaluate a past society.

Example :    

  • A Tale of Two Cities : Dicken
  • War and Peace : Tolstoy

            "A Tale of Two Cities" by 'Dicken' and "war and peace" by 'Tolstoy' are best examples of Historical writing.
