Satire Definition

                Satire is a Literary art . The word "Satire" derived from the Latin term "Satura". 
Satire is a technique used by writers to expose and criticize foolishness and corruption of an individual or a society by using Humor , Irony or ridicule . It uses laughter as a weapon . 
The basic motive of Satire is to correct the society . Irony and sarcasm are often an important aspect of Satire.
                     
                   Most Political catoons which we see every day in newpaper and magazines are Satire examples . These cartoons criticize some recent action of political figures in a comical way.

                    Alexander Pope's  "The Rape of The Lock" and Swift's "Gulliver's Travels" are best examples of satire . 

                    Pope criticizesed the follies of the middle class of eighteen century England.
                    Swift's "Gulliver's Travels" is a Satire on the whole race of man.

Satire is of two types :

  • Direct Satire
  • Indirect Satire

Direct Satire : 

  • In direct satire , the person speaks out in the first person.

Indirect Satire :

  • Indirect Satire is not a dorect address to the reader.
